Founded in 2016, Latinos in Transit (LIT) was created to promote the advancement and development of Latinos and other minorities in transportation. Membership is made of public and private transportation professionals from across the nation who meets regularly to network, share information and celebrate the professional development of all members.
Since 2017, the LIT Board of Directors has annually surveyed members to inquire what the organization should focus on. Training and Development has consistently ranked in the top three along with networking and mentorship opportunities. In 2019, LIT organized the first ever LIT Leadership Summit and received an overwhelming response. Over 100 LIT members and partners gathered for one day in Newport Beach, Ca. in September of 2019. The workshops featured top industry leaders comprised of c-suite executives, transit board members, and transit industry recruiters. Based on the response and feedback from the inaugural summit, the LIT Board of Directors approved to launch the LIT Leadership Academy to provide training and development opportunities to members who are pursuing growth opportunities within the transit industry.
