(August 8, 2018) The LIT Board of Directors is proud to announce Ms. Nuria Fernandez, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of VTA, as our featured speaker on September 23, 2018.
Ms. Fernandez is a Senior Executive with over 30 years of experience in the transportation field and a professional career that includes planning, design and construction of mass transit systems, airport operations and policy development of federal transportation programs. Nuria previously served as Chief Operating Officer for the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where she was responsible for the overall security of the MTA system, development of its capital and environmental sustainability programs, federal and state government affairs and management oversight of the five operating agencies and capital construction. Her additional experience and accomplishments include managing the operations of O’Hare International Airport, providing high-level policy and program expertise at the U.S. Department of Transportation and managing the design and construction of multi-billion dollar rail expansion programs in Chicago and Washington, D.C. Nuria has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bradley University and an MBA from Roosevelt University in Illinois. She also serves on various boards including APTA and Mineta Transportation Institute.

(Nov. 20, 2017) On November 3, 2017, the Board of Directors held its first annual board meeting. Latinos In Transit (LIT) officers and board members convened and discussed their recommitment to LIT’s mission and to serving on the board. We are proud to share that we are blessed with talented board members from different regions of the country. They are fully committed to LIT’s mission and are eager to make things happen. A Board election was also held. A two-year term was established for officers and non-officer positions. The election results were as follows:

(Oct. 8, 2017)- LIT's semi-annual membership meeting held in Atlanta, Ga. was attended by 40 transit proffesionals representing bus and rail agencies, small businesses, and private firms from around the country. The heavy rain did not put a damper on the occasion and provided the perfect venue for networking. During breakfast, the agenda was kicked off with a welcome from the LIT Board and introductions of all in attendance. Kevin McKay, Chief Operating Officer of Avail Technologies expressed support for LIT's mission and values. Special guest speaker, John Catoe, provided attendees a rare peak with a personal account of his career in public transit and challenges and opportunities he faced along the way. Lastly, Terry Solis was recognized by the LIT Board of Directors with the "Founders Award" for laying down the foundation in making LIT a reality. Photos of meeting highlights above.
